Dutch Henry`s Ride Proclamation for -

Buzzard`s Roost CTC 9-26-2009

Howdy Folks,

Buzzard`s Roost! Wonder why they call it that? No, not because your hosts for this ACTHA sanctioned CTC ride, Sheryl Lucas and Rod Southworth, are a couple of old buzzards. They`re really pretty nice people. They call it that because a mighty big herd of buzzards roost at the end of their ranch road on the high power lines. You`ll see `em Friday night when you arrive.

By golly if you`re within a few hundred miles of the Lucas spread, do yourself, a favor and spend the weekend at - The Roost. Free primitive camping for your stay. Picket your horse or set up a temporary corral. There are acres of grass, and shade.

Sheryl has carefully laid out a very interesting trail for all you ACTHA point buildin` riders. On their own land. A hill here, a valley there, and a quarter mile walk down the stream. In the water. Of course the ride is what the weekend is all about. And this promises to be a great one in the foothills of the Blue Ridge! Stay on a while after the ride weekend and investigate the hundreds of trail miles in the adjoining mountains.

The Lucas` have just as meticulously put all the other important things in this ride too. Sheryl and her meat-burnin` other half (That`s what she calls him, but I hear he is a fine cook) (He claims to be "The Burn King".), will personally feed you, mornin`, noon, and night. They have a wonderful outdoor fireplace to gather `round.  So bring your appetite, and your lawn chair.

Speaking of gathering around the fire, this next thing should really be a headline.

Saturday after chow, commencin` at four your hosts have arranged for an evening of Bluegrass music featuring -- Steve Barker!! It just doesn`t get better than that!

Also on Saturday night, after the music, Sheryl will take the lead and escort all those brave enough, to Love Valley: The Cowboy Capital of the East. She has plans to take you all to the Silver Spur for a night of dancing and carryin` on! You can check out the town at www.lovevalley.com , for all the details!

Of course if you dress sharp enough, and clean up good, you might win the award for the best dressed Gal or Guy. They`ll present an award to the best groomed horse too. Sheryl went out all out to round up terrific prizes. And the overall champion in this ride will receive a portrait of horse and rider!

Grab your gear, load your horse and head for The Buzzard`s Roost and have a weekend you`ll brag about for years. And remember ACTHA donates up to half their proceeds to local horse shelters!
