Bear Branch Horse Resort is centrally located in the beautiful 280,000-acre Shawnee National Forest just above Lusk Creek Canyon. Named after a creek that runs through the property, Bear Branch offers multiple access to the most scenic riding and hiking trails in the Forest. The Shawnee National Forest now has marked trails as well as good maps. There are no Bridle Tags required for 2010.

Our horse camp is within easy riding or hiking distance of Indian Kitchen, High Point, Devil`s Back Bone, Natural Rock Bridge, Salt Peter Cave, Secret Canyon, Peter Cave, Sand Cave, Jackson Hole, Bell Smith Springs, and Hayes Creek Canyon. And we`re just minutes from the River-to-River Trail. While you are here, be sure to save time to visit the breathtaking Garden of the Gods, Harrah`s Riverboat Casino, and the many antique shops located nearby.

Bear Branch features the rustic, highly praised Log Cabin Restaurant, General Store and Tack Shop, cabins and lodging with private baths, 80 campsites with hookups and highlines, a shower house with laundry facilities, and heat and air conditioning. For your horses, there are corrals (approx. 100` x 100`) and numerous 12` x 12` pens, highlines at all campsites, and a barn with 40 box stalls. There is a 2-acre fishing pond and a playground and recreational area. Our trails are marked, and trail maps are available.

Howdy Folks,

By golly how many times do you get to be part of a big deal? I mean a really big, wonderful deal. Not too often, I reckon! Well hot dang here`s your chance! In keeping with ACTHA`s mission to raise much needed funds for Horse Rescues and Charities, thousands of riders all across the USA will be steppin` into their stirrups on the same exact day to ride in ACTHA sanctioned Competitive Trail Challenges.

Never before has such a group of top-shelf and generous sponsors, organizations and riders come together for such worthwhile cause. Sadly never before has there been so great a need. We at ACTHA know how much the noble horse means to each of you – How much the gallant horse has given to shape the world! Let`s rally together and offer a token of thanks!

You are herewith invited to help set the Guinness®World Record for The Largest Trail Riding Competition! Not just for fun – even though you can count on it bein` a heap of fun – but for all the good it`ll do, too! Round up your family, friends and horse and sign on for this World Record Ride. Check-in Friday evening or Sat morning before 8:30

Rider`s briefing: 9:00am

Trail will take about 2 - 2 ½ hours, 6-7 miles

  • Great prizes for 1st - 6th place Open/Pleasure/Junior divisions. Voluntary $20 jackpot for open division at check-in.
  • Open, pleasure, junior, and buddy divisions. See the FAQ page for questions regarding the divisions.

Fees payable online:

  • CTC entry fee - $58 pleasure/$58 open/$43 junior/$40 Adult buddy/$35 junior buddy
  • New membership fee - $25 individual; $40 family of 2; $75 family of 4; additional horse - $10 ea.; additional rider - $10 ea.

Fees collected at check-in: electrical hook ups and stall fees

DIRECTIONS TO OUR RIDE:

Bear Branch Horse Resort is centrally located in the beautiful 280,000-acre Shawnee National Forest just above Lusk Creek Canyon. Named after a creek that runs through the property, Bear Branch offers multiple access to the most scenic riding and hiking trails in the Forest. Bear Branch is located:

• 16 miles South of Harrisburg on Highway 145; turn left off Highway 45 onto 145 just past Wal-Mart

• 35 miles Northeast of Paducah, Kentucky. Exit off I-24 at Exit 37, the first exit in Illinois. Go right on Highway 45, go 1/8 mile, then left on Highway 145 for 35 miles

• 2 miles North of Eddyville, Illinois; Bear Branch sign is on the West side of Highway 145

Registration for this ride will close 2 days before the ride date.

If heavy rain expected, rain date will be TBD, otherwise come prepared for some light rain and bring your slicker!
